Munzberg Weissburgunder Brut 2016

(1 customer review)

Superb value, fruity easy drinking

Producer | Weingut Münzberg
Country of origin |
Region | Pfalz
Grape Variety |
Medium bodied, medium acidity, easy drinking with freshness
Vintage | NV
Size | Bottle / 75cl
ABV | 12.50%
Style |
A wine that is light bodied and under 12.5% alcohol with medium to high acidity and delicate primary fruity aromas. Think varietal expression, fruit purity and precision rather than emphasis on wine making i.e battonage, reduction, oak, lees contact. These are refreshing wines with wide appeal. Typical tasting note expressions are ‘crisp’, ‘fresh’, ‘zesty’, ‘cool climate’, ‘purity of fruit’, ‘lean’. In its simplest form a light bodied wine would be equivalent to ‘skimmed’ milk and a full- bodied wine equivalent to blue-top, ‘whole fat’ milk. If your preference is for lighter bodied wines, look out for these grape varieties – young Gruner Veltliner, young Riesling, Pinot Bianco/Blanc, Frappato, unaged Chardonnay, Cinsault (whites), Pinot Noir, Gamay, Kadarka (reds).

Cool, tart nose, with aromas of herbs, delicate flora, citrus and pomaceous fruit and prominent yeasty notes. Ripe, juicy and persistent with good mousse and a light grip. Very good indeed and an excellent alternative to more readily accessible sparkling on the market.

Appearance: gold colour with lively bubbles

Nose: Cool, tart nose, prominent yeasty notes, vegetal and herbaceous as well as delicate floral notes, citrus and pomaceous fruit.

Palate: Ripe, fairly juicy fruit on the palate, prominent yeasty notes, light vegetal and herbaceous notes, persistent, fairly fine mousse, light grip, delicate hint of red berries in the background, good substance, nutty and more yeasty notes on a very good, fairly juicy finish.

Serving recommendation: 9-10 degrees Celsius

Food pairing

A delicious wine I poured at a party to show to friends just how German sekt is underrated. Fruity, balanced, simply great to drink! I’ll be doing so again versus non-descript prosecco, cava or entry champagne….
