Johannes Trapl Organic Uni6 2020
An unfiltered, natural wine with a slight spritz and a wild scent
Region | Carnuntum, Lower Austria
Grape Variety | Blaufränkisch
, St. Laurent
In blind tastings, Blau can be mistaken for a Pinot Noir or Gamay for its bright floral and spicy aromas though tends to be more vibrant and spicy. From the light, fresh and fruity un-oaked style to the richer, full-bodied styles, quality Blau reflects its terroir and has a sense of place about it. As Austria’s signature grape, it tends to be medium-bodied with fine grained tannins and medium-high acidity. Typical aromas will spice, black pepper and a tanginess, which can often be found in Austrian wines.
Thought of as a deeper, more powerful Pinot Noir with its origins in Austria. Medium body with soft, fine tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. Pairs well with richly flavoured foods such as cured meats and mushroom risotto
Style | Fresh & Light
A wine that is light bodied and under 12.5% alcohol with medium to high acidity and delicate primary fruity aromas. Think varietal expression, fruit purity and precision rather than emphasis on wine making i.e battonage, reduction, oak, lees contact. These are refreshing wines with wide appeal. Typical tasting note expressions are ‘crisp’, ‘fresh’, ‘zesty’, ‘cool climate’, ‘purity of fruit’, ‘lean’. In its simplest form a light bodied wine would be equivalent to ‘skimmed’ milk and a full- bodied wine equivalent to blue-top, ‘whole fat’ milk. If your preference is for lighter bodied wines, look out for these grape varieties – young Gruner Veltliner, young Riesling, Pinot Bianco/Blanc, Frappato, unaged Chardonnay, Cinsault (whites), Pinot Noir, Gamay, Kadarka (reds).

Unfiltered, pronounced ‘unisex’, this ‘Uni6’ rosé has a slight fizz and a wild scent ; let the wine open up if you are not such a fan of these flavours! With lots of minerality and elegant aromas of redcurrant, pomegranate and blood orange. Straightforward, lean and precise. A natural, low intervention wine that is unfiltered, reflecting all the characteristics of the local Carnuntum hilly terroir and the local grape varietals. The Blaufränkisch and St Laurent vines are up to 40 years old and cultivated on limestone, calcareous, sandy and loam soils at 260m altitude and planted at high density (5000 plants/ha) to encourage fruit intensity. The grapes were hand harvested using gentle extraction in the winery and fermented spontaneously before being aged part in 500 L oak barrel, part amphora and part stainless steel. The final wine has great acidity and freshness with sour cherry fruits and a spiciness
