Johannes Trapl Organic Grüner Veltliner 2020

Fresh and floral with a slight peppery note. Unfiltered, natural style

Producer | Weingut Trapl
Country of origin |
Region | Carnuntum, Lower Austria
Grape Variety |
Also known as ‘gru-vee’. From the light bodied, crisp, fresh and lean style to the fuller-bodied riper styles, GV or gru-vee as it’s become known, can deliver it all. The hallmark of a good Gruner is its acidity level which is always high. Don’t be fooled by its delicate expression as it first hits your palate; this grape tends to open up on the mid-palate to express citrus, spicy and mineral notes. Always with a good length. The younger wine for everyday enjoyment tend to show some white pepper and lime notes. At the more premium end, single vineyard produced wines or slightly aged styles, have a richer body and mouthfeel with complexity

Style |
A wine that is light bodied and under 12.5% alcohol with medium to high acidity and delicate primary fruity aromas. Think varietal expression, fruit purity and precision rather than emphasis on wine making i.e battonage, reduction, oak, lees contact. These are refreshing wines with wide appeal. Typical tasting note expressions are ‘crisp’, ‘fresh’, ‘zesty’, ‘cool climate’, ‘purity of fruit’, ‘lean’. In its simplest form a light bodied wine would be equivalent to ‘skimmed’ milk and a full- bodied wine equivalent to blue-top, ‘whole fat’ milk. If your preference is for lighter bodied wines, look out for these grape varieties – young Gruner Veltliner, young Riesling, Pinot Bianco/Blanc, Frappato, unaged Chardonnay, Cinsault (whites), Pinot Noir, Gamay, Kadarka (reds).

Description

Fruit-driven, juicy, easy drinking true to the variety with superb freshness and no artificial aromas. From varying aged vines on loam and limestone soils, fermented and aged for roughly 6 months in stainless steel. The Grüner vines are 18 years old and cultivated on limestone soils at 260m altitude using high vine density (5000 plants/ha) to encourage fruit intensity. Straightforward, lean and precise. A natural, low intervention wine that is unfiltered, reflecting all the characteristics of the local Carnuntum hilly terroir and grape varietal. The Grüner vines are 18 years old and cultivated on limestone soils at 260m altitude using high vine density (5000 plants/ha) to encourage fruit intensity. The grapes are hand harvested and then fermented spontaneously in stainless for 6 months. This wine is completely unmessed resulting in a wine with stone fruit, hand white peppery notes.
