Part of the Grandes Marques and the third largest champagne producer as well as grower, Taittinger‘s story began in 1734 when Jacques Fourneaux founded Forest-Fourneaux, working alongside Benedictine monks. Hard hit in the 1930’s Forest-Fourneaux was acquired by Pierre Taittinger who turned the estate into how we know it today. With a high chardonnay focus, the house blend is known for its fresh, fruity, floral style. In the very best years, Taittinger releases the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, which can age decades. It is produced exclusively from their best Grand Cru vineyards and aged in crayères, chalk caves dug by the Romans and one of only five producers to do so. Despite recent films, in Ian Fleming’s novels James Bond’s favourite fizz is Taittinger, not Bollinger.
