Odessos
After several wine harvests in the Southern Hemisphere, young brothers Georgi and Vladislav Vankov finally achieved their dream of launching their own production in 2020, offering small batches of artisan wines from the Northern Black Sea region.
Not owning their own vineyards, they scout the best terroirs around Varna, Provadia, Dalgopol and Kavarna, for their preferred varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Dimyat, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.
The area is highly maritime influenced, with relatively warm summers, mild winters, low thermal amplitude, the lowest annual rainfall in the country and frequent onshore/ offshore breeze both day and night. This makes for excellent whites, and elegant, balanced reds with good acidity, moderate alcohol and velvety tannins.
Through their terroir-driven varietal wines, Georgi and Vladislav are doing their best to raise awareness of the locality’s wine culture.
It will be interesting to watch their progress over the coming years.
