Faber – Köchl

Women Power! Mother and daughter Maria and Anna are passionate winemakers. Anna was named Austria’s Winemaker of the Year in 2019 and we are really excited to be launching the wines to the UK this summer. The connection to nature and the wine district is important to them both; all their grapes are hand-picked and farmed organically and the results are elegant compositions that carry the entire essence of the Weinviertel DAC region. The winery is located in Eibesthal, just a short distance from the wine town of Poysdorf. The 800 soul village is characterised by romantic cellar alleys but it is still under the radar as far as the wine-scene goes. Maria founded the winery twenty years ago, in 1999 and in 2002 her first vintage was harvested. It was around this time when the region quickly established itself as the Gruner Veltliner with the ‘Pfefferl’ (‘pepper’), a notable characteristic from the Weinviertal DAC. The region has its own viticultural challenges ; in 2018 the drought made it a tough year to harvest but produced interesting wines nevertheless. The two flagship wines from Faber & Kochl, the Cuvee Köchl Verzeichnis 507 and Köchl Verzeichnis 508, are named after two beautifully mastered compositions by Mozart. All their wines are well structured with a long elegant fresh length bursting with elegance and charm. Perfect to toast the summer of 2021 into with friends. Pure drinking fun!
